Rare Cortébert Perseo Triple Date Moonphase – 18K Gold Vintage Collectors Watch

Abraham-Louis Juillard opened his watchmaking workshop in the Swiss village of Cortébert in 1790. Though the Cortébert brand name wasn’t officially registered until 1855 (with the iconic bottony cross logo), the company quickly rose to fame as one of Switzerland’s most respected premium watchmakers.

Cortébert earned global recognition for its railroad watches, supplying timepieces to the Turkish and Italian railway systems, as well as European streetcar networks. In 1927, under Mussolini’s request, Cortébert distributed watches in Italy under the Perseo brand, a partnership that continues with Italian Railways to this day.

During the 1920s, Soviet Russia acquired Cortébert technology, producing the Molnija 616 pocket watch movement based on Cortébert’s design. By 1944, Cortébert had developed over 20 calibers, cementing its reputation as a leader in railway-grade precision timekeeping.

Like many Swiss maisons, Cortébert was deeply affected by the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s. Its Italian distributors acquired the Perseo brand, which survives today as an independent company still tied to railway tradition.
