Here's a cool tidbit: the first chronograph was invented in 1816 by Louis Moinet, but it wasn't for keeping track of time in the way we think. It was actually designed for astronomical purposes, specifically to track the movements of stars and planets. This early chronograph could measure time intervals to the 60th of a second, which was groundbreaking for its time. It wasn't until later that chronographs became popular for timing sports events and other activities.
