This vintage Omega Speedmaster Mark II Reference 145.034 is a rare gold 20 micron plated model powered by the manual-wind caliber 861. Serial number dates the watch to 1970. The Mark II was introduced in 1969 as the first full redesign of the classic Speedmaster Moonwatch case, marking the second generation of the manual-wound Speedmaster line.
The Speedmaster Mark II reference 145.034 is the gold-plated version of the Mark II line, powered by the manual-wind caliber 861, the robust, workhorse successor to the legendary caliber 321. With its barrel-shaped ‘Pilot Line’ case and integrated tachymeter under the mineral crystal, the Mark II was designed to offer improved legibility and protection over the original Moonwatch case while retaining the Speedmaster’s professional chronograph heritage.
The Mark II was offered in several configurations, including stainless steel with black dial, grey/orange “racing” dials, yachting dials, a gold-plated version with gilt dial, and an even rarer 18k yellow gold model. The barrel-shaped “Pilot Line” case design was shared with the Flightmaster and originated from a secret Omega development project of the era.
This example is a beauty and comes from a single-owner family. It was purchased from the son of the original owner, who had gifted it to his father. The watch was originally bought at the El Toro Marine Base Post Exchange in Orange County, California in June 1977 (the base closed in July 1999).
The bracelet clasp is inscribed with the name K. Zike and what appears to be an address, matching the family history. The watch comes with its Box, Papers, and original bracelet in a very raw, untouched condition. Very few complete sets like this remain.
This is the rare gold-plated Speedmaster Mark II variant, Reference 145.034. The watch is working and was serviced by the last owner. It remains in original condition and is absolutely a collector’s watch. If desired, the crystal can be changed to the popular burgundy variant for a different aesthetic.
Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description. This is a highly collectible watch and is sure to increase in value over time. A fantastic addition to any Speedmaster or vintage Omega collection.
The condition of the watch is exactly as shown in the photos. The watch is working and is part of our Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Program. Contact me if you have any questions before purchasing.
