From OMEGA’s beginnings, our timepieces have recorded some of the most significant moments in the world (and beyond). They have been worn by presidents and kings, astronauts and spies, movie stars and you. Behind each one is a legacy of horological quality and innovation.

A stainless steel manually wound driver’s fly-back chronograph wristwatch with grey dial and original steel Omega mesh bracelet

This unusual “Driver’s” watch was introduced by Omega in 1968. Designed to be worn ‘under’ the wrist, this model is unusually calibrated with the 12 o’clock position shifted 90° from its usual position to appear where one would usually expect to see the 3 o’clock numeral. Such dial layouts were a traditional form adopted by watchmakers for driver’s watches – allowing an easier reading of the time when the wearer’s hands were holding the steering wheel. However, Omega also marketed this model as a safer way to wear a wristwatch, especially for sportsmen, technicians, engineers and doctors and it was given the tag lines “Greater Visibility”, “Out of Harms Way” and “Stop-Watch Timing”. Omega launched the Driver’s Chronostop model in 1968 as a variant of the standard version of the model which had been introduced a couple of years before.

The chronograph movement allows the center seconds hand to be used either as a constant second’s hand or to time events up to one minute in duration. The pusher for the chronograph will start the seconds hand running when pressed for the first time, pressing a second time will automatically zero the seconds hand to the 12 o’clock position. This function can also be used to synchronize the watch to a time signal if the seconds hand is kept in its running position. The date changes each day at midnight, however, the watch also has provision for semi-quick date change, allowing the date to be manually advanced, when required, by turning the hands backwards and forwards between 10pm and midnight.

The original Omega steel mesh bracelet has a long adjustable folding clasp. This model was originally advertised for sale with either a leather strap or metal bracelet and the bracelet can be detached and replaced with a strap if preferred. The are a couple of small scuffs to the dial and there are scuffs and scratches to the steel case.

This is a beauty.  Defiantly a collector watch. Please look at all the pictures, as they are part of the description. The watch is working and keeping great time for its age. This is a highly collectible watch. Very few left with this rare movement. Sure, to increase in value overtime, and a great addition to your collection. The condition of the watch is the same as it appears in the photos.   The watch is working and is part of our new Certified Pre-Owned CPO Program.  Contact me if you have any questions first.
