📚 Vintage Bel-Lux Precision Date-O-Graph – Triple Date – 1950s – Product Description, History & Operation

This vintage Bel‑Lux Precision Date‑O‑Graph from the 1950s features a rare triple‑calendar (day / date / month) complication paired with a rotating date inner bezel — a configuration that is extremely hard to find today. These multifunction Swiss watches were produced in limited numbers, and surviving examples with original components remain highly collectible.

The dial is marked “BREVET,” indicating that this mechanism was protected under a Swiss patent. Unlike many triple‑date watches of the era that rely on pusher pins, this design allows the user to operate the entire calendar system through the crowns and rotating inner bezel, making it far more practical and user‑friendly.

The case is larger than most 1950s dress watches, measuring approximately 33.5 mm across, and features a gleaming rhodium‑plated bezel with a stainless steel snap‑back. The original dial includes a rotating date bezel, an inner day‑of‑the‑week scale, a month aperture at 12 o’clock, raised Arabic numerals, pencil hands, a blue triangle‑tipped day/date indicator, and sub‑seconds — all classic elements of mid‑century Swiss calendar watches.

The manual‑winding movement was recently cleaned by the previous owner and is running with all functions operating correctly. These Bel‑Lux “Date‑O‑Graph” style watches are known for their simplicity, practicality, and intuitive layout. Once you understand how the system works, the design becomes surprisingly efficient and clever for its era.

🕹️ Operation Guide

This patented triple‑calendar system is operated entirely through the crowns and the rotating inner bezel. No pusher pins are used.

🔸 Crown at 3 o’clock

  • Manual winding: Winds the movement.
  • Time setting: Sets the hour and minute hands.
  • Date advance: Advancing the time past midnight moves the blue triangle‑tipped date hand.

🔸 Crown at 10 o’clock

  • Rotates the inner bezel: Used to align the day of the week with the date. At Position 2
  • Calendar adjustment: Works with the inner scale and dial displays to set the day and month indication.
  • Month Adjustment: Position 0

Once the inner bezel is aligned and the calendar is set, the watch allows the wearer to read the day, and date, at a glance using the rotating scale, the month aperture at 12 o’clock, and the arrow‑tipped date hand. This system is simple, clever, and characteristic of mid‑century Swiss triple‑date watches.

As with all vintage calendar watches, adjustments should be made carefully. If you are unfamiliar with vintage triple‑date mechanisms, consulting a watchmaker is recommended.

The condition of the watch is exactly as shown in the photos. The watch is working and was serviced by the last owner, but as with all vintage watches, a service is recommended for long‑term performance. Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.
