Day and Month Abbreviations for Calendar Watches

As a vintage watch collector myself, I purchase lots of watches with foreign date or day wheels.  This is especially common on Valjoux 72C, Venus 200 or Lemania 5100 and Valjoux 7750/7751 powered chronographs watches.  Check out our full collection of Triple Date Watches also known as Day Date Watches at ExpertsWatches.com.

Typically, the first three letters of the day or date are used as an abbreviation indicator. There are exceptions, some used numbers next to the day to show the day of the week. We have examples of the full days wheel which would be used for full days watches like Rolex Presidential which is usually displayed at the 12 O’clock. 

The easiest way to determine which language day-wheel is installed in your watch is to advance the date to Thursday [or Jeudi, Donnerstag, Gioved, Quinta-Feira or Jueves]. Because each of these six languages has a unique name abbreviation for Thursday day of the week whichever abbreviation is used will identify which specific language the day & date wheel of your watch. Portugues love Friday since their abbreviation is SEX day.
